CMSA and NASW Support Updated
Standards of Practice for Case Management

The release of the recently revised Standards of Practice for Case Management (Case Management Society of America, 2010) represents the collaborative efforts of the Case Management Society of America (CMSA), NASW, and other case management stakeholder organizations. The revised standards, which provide valuable guidance to
case managers as well as social workers and other professionals practicing in a variety of health and mental/behavioral health settings, have been well received by
case managers of multiple disciplines. (Click here to read the NASW News article regarding the standards.)
Unfortunately, the Commission for Case Manager Certification (CCMC) has taken issue with certain sections of the standards, including a standard promoting all social workers as qualified case managers. CMSA continues to uphold the revised standards as published and appreciates the support of
NASW in doing the same. CMSA applauds the role of all case managers and encourages
its members to download the revised standards for review and use.
