Electronic Standards of Practice Booklet

Member: Free

Non-Member: $25

Since 1991, CMSA has supported the practice of case management by being the first organization to provide guidance in the delivery of professional practice based in evidence. In 2022 the Standards have been updated to continue guidance in the practice of case management in ever-changing and challenging healthcare environments.

The 2022 Standards reflect the flexibility of case managers in unusual times and the inclusion of language and guidance to better meet the needs of all populations. The Standards have been reordered to represent Case Management Process execution. The Standards Task Force and Review Committee members believed this simple edit would be powerful and a better representation of professional case management practice.

The work of case managers is vital to the populations and individuals served, and opportunities to influence core processes are available. CMSA’s Standards elevate the practice of case management and establish case managers as healthcare professionals.

CMSA’s Opioid Use Disorder Case Management Guide was developed in collaboration with Reinsurance Group of America’s ROSE program and authored by CMSA’s Executive Director, Kathleen Fraser, CMSA Program Director, Rebecca Perez, and Senior RGA ROSE Consultant, Melinda Baxter.

The abuse of opioids is a global problem that affects the health, social, and economic welfare of societies.

The challenge of healthcare professionals is to confront the growing impact of opioid abuse on health and well-being while preserving the fundamental role of opioids for the treatment of pain and human suffering.

This guide will assist case managers and other healthcare professionals in the assesment, care planning process, and intervention development to address opioid use disorder.

Motivational Interviewing

Member: $99

Non-Member: $125

This program is centered around motivational interviewing which is an evidenced based effective method for improving adherence to health behaviors.  It was developed specifically for patients who are either ambivalent or resistant to change regarding these health behaviors.  CMSA has really listened to your requests for a practical motivational interviewing course targeted at health care professionals and their needs.  We are thrilled to bring you an accredited course developed by the foremost authorities of MI in healthcare, Drs. Bruce Berger and William Villaume.

This program is based on and extends the work in Bruce and Bill’s groundbreaking book, Motivational Interviewing for Healthcare Professionals:  A Sensible Approach, the culmination of teaching motivational interviewing to health care professionals for over 25 years.  This program recognizes the unique training needs and time restraints of health care professionals.  AND….it is acronym-free!!!  This 8-hour accredited program consists of 6 interactive modules. Each module has a series of practice questions that allow learners to assess their understanding of the material presented and their ability to apply that material in realistic patient scenarios.

After completing a module and the practice questions in the module, learners will be directed to a graded assessment for that module.  Each module’s graded assessment requires achieving a score of 70 percent or better to pass that module.  The learner has two tries to achieve 70 percent.  Each module will build on the previous module.  The modules bookmark so you can exit the program at anytime, anywhere in the program and return to where you left off.  You may review materials you have already viewed as often as you like.  They are even outline buttons for each screen that allow you to hyperlink back to specific topics you would like to review!

Successful completion of the program provides 8 hours of accredited continuing education credit for dietitians, nurses, pharmacists, physicians and social workers (see below). CMSA will also provide pre-approved CCM hours.
