  Vogel, Victor G., MD, MHS, has served as professor of medicine and epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh since January 1996. Dr. Vogel completed his undergraduate training at The Johns Hopkins University and graduated from Temple University Medical School. He was a resident in internal medicine at the Baltimore City Hospitals and a fellow in medical oncology at The Johns Hopkins Oncology Center. While an oncology fellow, he was an Andrew W. Mellon fellow in clinical epidemiology at The Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health, earning a Master of Science Degree in Epidemiology in 1986. From 1986 to 1995, he was on the faculty of the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and served as deputy chairman of the Department of Clinical Cancer Prevention. Dr. Vogel is a fellow of the American Colleges of Medicine and Preventive Medicine, and he is board-certified in internal medicine, medical oncology, and general preventive medicine/public health. He is a recipient of numerous honors and awards including: a Career Development Award from the American Cancer Society, a research fellowship from the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, and the Achievement Medal from the US Public Health Service. He is listed in Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare and The Best Doctors in America. Dr. Vogel is a member of numerous boards and committees and was a member of the Data and Safety Monitoring Board for the Women’s Health Initiative of the National Institutes of Health. He served as the national protocol chairman of the National Cancer Institute’s STAR Trial (Study of Tamoxifen and Raloxifene). He is the author of more than 200 articles, book chapters and abstracts. Dr. Vogel edited the books Management of Patients at High Risk for Breast Cancer (Blackwell Science, 2001); and Handbook of Breast Cancer Risk Assessment: Evidence-based Guidelines for Evaluation, Prevention, Counseling, and Management (Jones and Bartlett Publishers, Boston, 2003). He is currently Co-Director of the Magee-Women’s Hospital/University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute Bio-Chemoprevention Program. His research interests are in breast cancer risk assessment and prevention.
