Eng, Cathy, MD, is assistant professor in the Department of Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Dr. Eng received her medical degree from the Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. She completed her residency training in internal medicine at the Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago and her fellowship in hematology/oncology at the University of Chicago.

 

Currently, she serves on the Faculty Senate and is the program chairwoman of the Multidisciplinary Colorectal Cancer Clinical Translational Research Conference at M.D. Anderson. Nationally, she is a member of the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG) Gastrointestinal Committee, as well as having served on numerous committees on behalf of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) including Career Development Committee, Health Services Committee, and presently the Scientific Program Gastrointestinal Planning Committee for ASCO 2006-2008; she will be serving as the track leader for the Scientific Gastrointestinal Planning Committee in colorectal cancer for ASCO 2007-2008. She continues to work on behalf of ASCO as part of the Workforce Implementation Group focusing on the estimated shortage of medical oncologist for the year 2020, and is a member of the expert panel for ASCO guidelines regarding radiofrequency ablation of hepatic metastases from colorectal cancer. She is the recipient of the SWOG Young Investigator Award 2005.

 

Dr. Eng is the principal investigator of several clinical trials evaluating the use of cytotoxic treatment and targeted therapy in colorectal cancer and anal cancer. She has authored peer-reviewed journal articles, abstracts, and book chapters on the treatment of colorectal cancer and anal cancer and serves as a reviewer for many leading journals such as Cancer, Clinical Cancer Research, International Journal of Radiation Oncology and Biophysics, and Journal of Clinical Oncology. She is listed in “The Consumer’s Guide to America’s Top Physicians”.
