Van Houten, Marilyn, RN, MS, CDMS, CCM, founded Rehab Case Management 20 years ago in 1988, specializing in case management of complex, catastrophic cases within the state of Fl & for federal employee's. She has over 39 years of nursing experience in case management, public health, hospice, home health and psychiatric nursing and graduated in 1969 with a bachelor of science degree in nursing and obtained a masters degree with academic honors, in Human Service Administration. Marilyn is a registered nurse, a certified case manager (CCM), a certified disability management specialist (CDMS); and a Florida-certified, Division of Workers Compensation, rehab service provider as well as being certified through the USDL as a case manager. She has worked as a public health and home health nurse and administrator as well as the first paid staff member & administrator of the first hospice program in Miami. She has been very actively involved in the professional development of case management at a local, state, and national level. She is past president, of Miami Dade Chapter of South Florida Case Management Network, and served many years on the local and state board of directors as well as, serving as their government affairs chairperson. She has actively been involved in educating elected officials on the benefits of case management in the Florida state capital, Tallahassee, and in Washington D.C. Marilyn served as a national director for the Case Management Society of America (CMSA) for three years from 1997 to 2000. In addition, Marilyn received “Case Manager of the Year" award from VPS Case Management Services in 1986. In 2005, she received the South Fl Case Management Network "Case Manager of the Year" award in recognition "of personal and professional case management advocacy as a breast cancer patient.” Since her breast cancer diagnosis in 2005, she has been actively involved with the Susan G Komen for a Cure organization as a "Bosom Buddie" for others with triple negative breast cancer. She has also participated in numerous research studies on breast cancer.
