Alter, Katharine E. MD has practiced as a pediatric/adult psychiatrist in the Baltimore Washington area for 18 years. Dr. Alter is in clinical practice at Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital where she is the Medical Director of Rehabilitation Programs. Dr. Alter is also senior clinician/scientist at National Institutes of Health in the Physical Disability Branch, Human Motor Control Section. Dr. Alter is the co-investigator on the number of studies investigating spasticity, movement disorders, proprioception, Virtual Functional Anatomy/MRI and the use of Botulinum Toxin in the Treatment of movement disorders. Dr. Alter is board certified in Pediatrics, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Electrodiagnostic Medicine and has a special certificate in Pediatric Rehabilitation. Dr. Alter’s areas of special-interest are in the origins and treatment of upper motor neuron syndromes, movement disorders, gait disorders, neonatal brachial plexus injuries and pediatric neuromuscular disorders. Dr. Alter is active in a number of community organizations and national specialty organizations including the AAP, AAPMR, AANEM and AACPDM. In 2007 she was appointed the Research and Awards Committee of the American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine.
