William Gary Collins, BSN, RN, is the Assistant Nurse Manager of the Neuroscience Center of MCG Health System, the clinical enterprise of the Medical College of Georgia. He is responsible for assisting the Nurse Manager in the day-to-day management of a 10-bed Neuro ICU, a 10-bed general care unit. The Neuroscience Center is widely recognized as a model of patient- and family-centered care.
He joined the health system in 1989 as a Staff Nurse, and has held progressively responsible positions since then. Before assuming his current position in 2003, he was a Charge Nurse and Senior Staff Nurse on a general surgical unit.
He earned an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing from South Georgia College in 1979, and a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Albany State College in 1985.
He was nominated for the 2006 Family Choice Award for the practice of Patient- and Family-Centered Care, is the recipient of health system’s Nurse of the Year Award, and was an integral part of the Neuroscience Center opening the first Patient- and Family-Centered Neuro-Intensive unit.
