Diann B. Uustal, RN, MS, EdD, is the Founder and President of an educational consulting firm, Educational Resources in HealthCare, Inc., established in 1976; and is a nationally and internationally recognized educator, author, and consultant. Dr. Uustal is a facilitator of workshops and seminars in healthcare ethics, professional caregiver issues, and values in education, which are presented to hospitals, colleges of nursing and medicine, and specialty nursing, medical, and other professional organizations, and various national conferences.
Dr. Uustal has been named to "Who’s Who in American Nursing," "Who’s Who in Medicine & Healthcare," "Who’s Who in American Women," "Who’s Who in Executives in Business," and “Who’s Who in American Education.” Diann received her BS degree from the University of RI, and an MS in Nursing from the University of MA.
She earned her doctoral degree in Education, majoring in ethics and values in healthcare, at the University of MA. In 1994, she completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in healthcare ethics as a Visiting Fellow at the Kennedy Institute of Ethics at Georgetown University.
As a clinical-ethicist, Dr. Uustal is experienced in consulting with hospital ethics committees, conferring in problematical clinical-ethical cases, reviewing and writing policies, and helping establish new ethics committees. Diann has authored numerous articles in healthcare values and ethics, professional issues in nursing, and caring for the caregiver. She has authored five books and co-edited three. Three of the most recent are entitled: Clinical Ethics and Values: Issues and Insights in a Changing Health Care Environment; Caring for Yourself--Caring for Others: The Ultimate Balance; and Cutting Edge Bioethics: A Christian Exploration of Technologies and Trends. In addition, Diann was a major consultant for the award winning Concept Media film series on Ethics, Values, and Healthcare; and wrote the script for the film entitled: "Values Clarification."
