The National Asthma Education and Prevention Program (NAEPP) recently released updated guidelines for control of asthma which require case managers to change how they plan, implement, facilitate and evaluate asthma case management services.
This Symposium will provide video case studies and real talk from asthma experts about how to tackle the burden of asthma. Despite advances made in the treatment and management of allergic asthma, many patients remain sub-optimally controlled, continuing to suffer exacerbations that expose them to long-term lung tissue damage, spiraling health care costs, absence from work or school, and related quality of life setbacks.
Approximately, one-third of patients with asthma will not respond to standard treatment and may even worsen while on therapy. Informed case managers can make a significant different in the outcomes of patients with asthma.
Objectives:
- Assess the current state of asthma management and allergic asthma control in managed care.
- Apply treatment and management strategies to improve outcomes in pediatric and adult asthma, using a case study format.
- Evaluate the role of the multi-disciplinary asthma management team to improve care for patients with allergic asthma.
