Chronic pain continues to be under-recognized and under-treated in the U.S. The economic and psychosocial impacts of chronic pain are severe. Approximately, 30 million Americans suffer from moderate to severe non-cancer related chronic pain. Chronic pain results in over 40 million doctor visits and 515 million lost work days annually (1). Current and future approaches to the diagnoses and treatment options for chronic pain conditions are essential to any case manager dealing with these patients(2).
The goal of this Symposium is to provide participants with information on the pathology of chronic pain, and the most common injuries and disease conditions that present as chronic pain and treatment options.
