The profession of Health Coaching is earning an important role in mainstream medicine. From hospital and corporate wellness programs to large innovative disease management programs, health coaches are beginning to play a pivotal role in consumer-driven healthcare. We’re calling consumers to take charge and drive their health and well-being–health coaches are well-positioned to be their partners.
However, the case manager paradigm is built upon telling patients what to do rather than making them stretch their brains and build efficacy. And, it focuses on specific risks and behaviors and doesn’t integrate the bigger picture that drives self-care and well-being. To be at the cutting edge, it’s time for healthcare providers to model efficacy (personally) and to learn how to enable efficacy through the growth-promoting relationship of health coaching. This workshop will introduce evidence-based skills and processes drawn from the new domain of coaching psychology to help case managers outgrow the expert approach and empower people to drive the healthcare system to meet their needs, and be well.
Objectives:
- Present an overview of the theories which underpin psychology.
- Teach core coaching skills and processes.
- Provide coaching demonstration and coaching practice.
