For successful practice, case managers need a foundation of education specific to their role. Specifically, they need both the additional knowledge and the skill development that is unique to case management practice. Organizations are beginning to realize that health care professionals do not obtain this important education through their clinical practice or academic preparation.
Supporting case managers with an appropriate foundation, i.e. training, leads to much more effective and efficient practice as well as promoting staff retention. This session will describe the training needs for case managers in any setting and discuss various training models, formats, and content outlines.
Objectives:
- Describe the knowledge and skills needed for case management practice.
- Explain key work functions and activities for case management practice.
- Define content, format, and models for case management training.
