Case Management Society of America (CMSA) Announces
2005 National Case Manager of the Year Award Recipient

Little Rock, AR - At CMSA's 15th Annual Conference in Orlando, Fla., held in June, Peter Moran, RN,C, BSN, MS, CCM, of Newburyport, Mass., received the distinguished National Case Manager of the Year Award (CMOY) given annually by CMSA. In presenting the award, the association pointed out that Peter "is a shining example of a case manager who not only utilizes his experience and knowledge for the best possible outcome for his client, but who practices compassion, keeping in mind that the client is oftentimes confused, frightened, and overwhelmed by the healthcare system."

A letter of recommendation cited from A. Conn, MD, Chief of Emergency Services at Massachusetts General Hospital, stated, "I wish we could clone him and keep him in the ED 24 hours a day to meet all of the needs ... he has been an outstanding communicator with all of the professionals ... and he never fails to remind us to complete the appropriate paperwork in a timely manner so that the patient outcome emerges smoothly, and there are no roadblocks in the approval process down the road."

A fellow staff member acclaimed, "Peter is strongly committed to case management practice ... selflessly volunteering and donating his free time to educate, support, and nurture case managers."

Peter is not only recognized as a caregiver whose innovative methods and contributions to case management have reached the "unreachable," but also as one who has served to promote excellence in all facets of case management. CMSA was especially pleased and honored to present its 2005 Case Manager of the Year Award to Peter, who joins a prestigious list of 22 past honorees. Along with other CMSA award recipients, Peter was an honored guest at a CMSA Award Reception on Thursday, June 23, held at the Gaylord Palms in the CMSA President's hotel suite.

Current Positions
Since 2002, Peter has served as a nurse case manager in the Emergency Department at Massachusetts General Hospital - a Level I Trauma Center, Burn Center, and Pediatric Trauma Center. He has utilized his prior work and life experiences in assisting patients released from the ER to secure the services they need for a safe outcome - specifically targeting populations such as the frail elderly, the homeless, and the uninsured.

A CMSA member since 1995, Peter has served as President of CMSA's New England chapter, National Chapter Presidents' Council Representative, National Vice President, and a sought-after industry speaker - which makes him a leader in every sense of the word.
