A Unity of Vision, A Diversity of Strengths
Working Together in Case Management

A Unity of Vision, A Diversity of Strengths Two seemingly opposite words come together in CMSA's 17th Annual Conference theme. Unity is defined as being in accord, harmony, or oneness. Diversity, in a social context, refers to the presence of, in once population, a wide variety of cultures, ethnic groups, languages, physical features, socio-economic backgrounds, opinions and beliefs.

While the theme accurately expresses our deepest passions for the industry, it falls short in painting an accurate picture of the degree to which we silo ourselves. In intriguing ways, technology, research, commerce and media that increase opportunities for unity in our industry, also push us apart. Yet, we should be both encouraged and excited by this paradox, as it is most often in transition periods like this when old patterns disintegrate as new patterns of thought and communication become established.

The question remains: "How does such a diverse industry attempt to become unified?" I would like to suggest joining me and a host of other healthcare professionals at CMSA's 17th Annual Conference and Expo. Since 1990, CMSA has been at the forefront in creating the future of case management. I firmly believe you will leave this conference feeling empowered to join us as pioneers of healthcare change.

Through a variety of clinical symposia, 11 concurrent tracks, facilitated networking sessions, keynote presentations and the industry's finest exhibit hall, CMSA's conference will work to:
  • Establish the strategic importance of care management
  • Develop a new paradigm of communication between and across silos
  • Facilitate a meaningful exchange of ideas
  • Create initiatives that reach to the grassroots of our industry — case managers everywhere
Connie Commander, RN, BS, CCM, ABDA, CPURAs the umbrella organization for case / care management, the future depends largely on our success in balancing unity and diversity...that is, the ability to speak as a coherent and purposeful voice and at the same time respect and accommodate legitimate diversity within our membership.

Ultimately, our goal is to establish the strategic relevance of case management for you, your employer, and the patients and families we serve. When we work together toward these goals, we achieve a unity in diversity. Join us this June in Denver on our journey towards a Unity of Vision, A Diversity of Strengths.
