Recent Award Recipient
Betty Overbey, RN, CRRN, CDMS, CCM, CRP, MSCC
Glenn Allen, Virginia
Known as one of a select few case managers who helped craft and define "case management" as we know it today, Betty is recognized as "a genuine 'in-the-trenches' case manager."
After graduating with honors from Richmond Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Virginia in 1968, she worked as Staff Nurse then Head Nurse at Virginia Treatment Center for Children. A decade later, she became a case manager in 1979 and began her own case management company in 1988.
An active CMSA member since 1995, she currently serves as Vice President for CMSA national and is also a case management presenter, facilitator, consultant, and educator. Active in both international and local community service, including a medical mission project through her church and the Baptist International Mission Board, she participates in week-long clinics for a medically under-served population in Guatemala and takes classes to learn to speak better Spanish as a result. Closer to home, she helps serve meals with CARITAS, a local Richmond, Virginia, organization dedicated to helping the homeless.
