CogniMed proposes to educate through involvement of the audience and the faculty in a truly interactive conversation among experts, focusing on the current and novel uses for botulinum toxins. This town hall forum-style program is designed to include brief presentations in a roundtable setting, coupled with very structured collegial discussion among the two faculty panelists and one moderator, as well as questions posed to the panel by audience members.
The faculty will be specialists in the use of botulinum toxins for various conditions. The didactic portion of the program will highlight the latest clinical data on the different botulinum toxin types and novel use for neurologic and urologic conditions. A Moderator’s Guide, which will be developed in collaboration with the faculty, will contain key questions that will be posed by the moderator and addressed by a predetermined faculty member; the faculty member’s response will include slide support of key data illustrative of the point they are making. The other faculty members on the panel will have an opportunity to provide additional commentary, offering a different perspective on the question, consistent with their own role on the treatment team. This approach will provide a 360o, in-depth analysis of the issues at hand and address the interest of varying audience members.
The moderator will actively seek input from key audience members, who are also noted experts. Registrars will be in aisles with microphones so that anyone in the audience can have the opportunity to ask questions. The registrars will signal to the moderator that someone has a comment to make. The moderator, at his/her discretion, can then elect to choose to have additional comments or can move on depending upon time. The audience will be involved and engaged, but questions will not detract from the key points being made by the faculty or the overall flow of the program.
Objectives:
- Identify the expanding uses of novel treatment options for neurologic and urologic conditions.
- Compare the fundamental biochemistry, formulations, and interactions of and indications for botulinum toxin stereotypes.
- Weigh the benefits of localized versus systemic treatment in order to guide patients and work with appropriate specialists as a team to make informed treatment choices.
- Adhere to guidelines for follow-up and monitoring of patients receiving novel therapeutic options for neurologic and urologic conditions.
