We all learned that a grassroots approach to the last presidential election yielded positive results. It is in this same direction that CMSA’s Public Policy Committee has been leading our organization of greater than 11,000 members. The importance of forming chapter grassroots liaisons through our Senate Liaison Program, will be realized when every chapter in CMSA has established their own Public Policy Committee to effect positive change in the field of Case Management. With this program, every chapter will have a voice in Washington, DC.
The knowledge learned with this poster will demystify political activity, and assist case managers to become experienced and confident in the legislative process. It will reveal, in every setting of Case Management practice, why there is a need to be involved in the political process. Democracy is not a spectator sport. Legislators need our voices now, as the process of re-shaping our healthcare delivery system is evaluated. Case Managers have been asked to sit at the discussion table by CMS. We must be ready, willing, and able to heed the call, to ensure the best our healthcare system has to offer is in place for all Transitions of Care.
Objectives:
- Advise CMSA chapters in developing public policy committees.
- Counsel chapter liaisons in the process for working with senators and congressional representatives on federal, state, and local levels.
- Relate or showcase initiatives of the Public Policy Committee (PPC) to discuss with legislators.
