Standards of Practice (SOP) for Case Managers are a critical resource for case management practice today. In an effort to remain current with the evolution of the practice of case management, CMSA has undertaken the revision of the current (2002) standards. The revised 2010 Standards of Practice for Case Managers were released in early 2010.
This session will discuss why CMSA undertook the work of revising the SOP, the structure of the standards, changes that were made to the existing structure, and the applicability of these changes to the practice of case management. Extensive changes were made to the standards themselves, which will be discussed in this interactive session. The process of how “standards” documents get revised and all the elements of the process, along with the legal implications, will provide attendees with just-in-time information for applying the revised SOP into their individual practices.
Lastly, this session will explore the value of standards to individual practice, some of the recommendations for future revisions of the standards, and encourage active audience participation.
