Healthcare Reform has been in the forefront of political activity since our new President took office. This heightened awareness has given the CMSA Board of Directors, Public Policy Committee, and Chapter Liaison Network an even greater opportunity to engage all Case Managers in the political process. With one-third of our Senators seeking re-election in the coming year, our opportunity to influence healthcare delivery is wide open! To this end, CMSA has developed the Case Management Model Act of 2009. This Act has been designed to be used at all levels of government: Federal, State and Local.  It highlights the impact case managers have on cost containment, transitions of care, and outcome management. Learn why it is important for Case Managers to be politically active, and how to incorporate political activities into your professional practice. Democracy is not a spectator sport! Understand the roles Case Managers need to take on to be part of re-shaping our healthcare delivery system, and educate our legislators as to why we are the key to quality care provision in all arenas.

Objectives:
  1. Define politics and distinguish from policy.
  2. Discuss ways to effectively communicate with legislators the importance of the CM Model Act of 2009.
  3. Identify how politics are part of your professional practice.
