We know that the problems in health care cannot be addressed without information and connectivity. The HITECH provisions of the 2009 stimulus package dramatically changed the vision for how hospitals connect and share information with physicians by supporting "meaningful use" of Electronic Health Records (EHRs). Given the financial incentives and focus on how quality of care can be improved by using technology, how is the case management practice changing?

This session will look at the current impacts of the HITECH stimulus provisions, what is projected to change, and the implications for case management across the continuum.

Objectives:
  1. Describe how technology adoption in healthcare is changing as a result of the HITECH Act.
  2. State the benefits of “meaningful use” of electronic health records in linking the healthcare continuum.
  3. Explain the implications for case management practice as electronic health record adoption accelerates.
