Title: Perception of Nearly 7000 Case Managers About the Practice of Case Management

The Commission for Case Manager Certification (CCMC) recently completed a national survey of nearly 7,000 case managers. The purpose was to describe current practice of case management, and delineate the primary roles and functions of case managers from various professional backgrounds and care settings. 

The study also aimed to identify the knowledge areas required for effective and competent performance of case managers. Those who participated in the survey were able to rate the frequency and importance of 107 essential case management activities and 85 knowledge areas. 

The study yielded insights about recent, as well as future, changes in practice. This survey results in the identification of case management domains of practice and knowledge that are valuable for design of case management roles, training, and education of case managers. 

Similarities and differences among various subgroups of case managers (e.g., nurses, social workers, vocational rehabilitation specialists, etc.) were also identified. This presentation will briefly review the study design, data collection, and analysis procedures. In addition, it will describe in detail the findings and their implications.
