Theresa J. Adell, RN, MS, CNRN, CCM

Theresa “Terri” Adell, RN, MS, CNRN, CCM, received her RN diploma from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn, NY; her BS in Health Administration from St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue, NY; and her MS in Health Care Policy and Management from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She is certified in Neuroscience Nursing and Case Management.
Much of her nursing career has been spent in Neuroscience Nursing including patient care, nursing education, nursing research, community outreach, and case management. In her current position of Case Manager and Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS) Supervisor, she is involved in the orientation of new staff, acts as a resource, and provides support to all the Case Managers and CDS at Stony Brook University Medical Center (SBUMC). Additionally, she has helped develop the role of the Clinical Documentation Specialist; and helped introduce case management in the Emergency Department at SBUMC.
She has lectured on Neuro Anatomy and Physiology at Stony Brook University’s Annual Stroke Day, spoken on Lyme Disease at The American Association of Neuroscience Nursing Annual Conference, and presented posters at both University Healthcare Consortium and the Case Management Society of America dealing with communication strategies to plan safe discharges and decreasing length of stay in patients hospitalized over 30 days.
